Background tutorial

I was asked how I had produced the background on my Fairies Card.  So Here's how.

1
1.I use Inkylicious ink dusters , they are like big shaving brushes and you dab them in the ink, then dab off on spare paper so you get rid of some of the ink then apply like Tim Holtz foam. Starting on the outer edge. I find that with the foam I put too much on but with the brushes you start off light and build it up.
To get the 3 layers I used photocopier paper.

2

 2. I got all my equipment out.

3

4
3 & 4.I first added the shadow with alcohol inks on the plant pot then put the paper across from the top where the table would be /ground then dusted the duster gradually building the ink up.(TO GET THE INK ON THE DUSTER YOU DAB INTO THE INK THEN DAB OFF ON COPIER PAPER)

5
5. You can see my dab off on the copier paper, this removes the excess and makes the application smoother.

6
6. When I was happy I moved up to the next layer, which was the yellow again the paper on from above and added that layer.

9

7,8 &9. Then finally I put the paper covering the yellow and brown and dusted on the blue layer

I usually colour my images in first, so any small areas that need filling i use a small stipple brush

10. Here is the image with the background and my finished card

Hope this helps
Let me know if it was any use hugs txx

This looks great Tania! The brushes look like they're much easier to control than the sponges.

Fab tute Tania.

Absolutely love these brushes as I'm too heavy handed with the dabbers as well.

Hello Tania, I love the tutorial you did brilliantly and I think I will have to get those brushes too as I get a bit heavy handed with the applicator.

A very clear tutorial. Used to use those brushes a lot, but not now I am digital! Ali x (Crafty Bloggers Network)

Thank you so much for the tutorial. I find you have more control over the colouring by using the ink dusters.
